Dance of Urgency

Dance of Urgency emerges in moments of personal or collective crisis—as a response to pain, protest, survival, or the need for connection. It is not about spectacle, but about necessity. Artist-researcher Bogomir Doringer will share how dance functions as a tool of empowerment, resistance, and healing—from the club scenes of Belgrade during the 1999 NATO bombing to the techno raves in Kyiv and Tbilisi after political uprisings. Through his ongoing research and the project ‘I Dance Alone’, he examines how bodies in motion carry memory, reclaim agency, and reflect urgent social dynamics. Together with you – the audience – Jeugd van de Nacht and Bogomir Doringer will research what it means to dance and how dancing is not necessarily a joyful experience and a celebration of life.

Bogomir Doringer

Artist-researcher and raver Bogomir Doringer is a curator weaving voices of creatives, technologists and thinkers between the art-industry canon and those emerging from the fringes. Doringer excites and incites the diverse spaces of night, culture, technology and organisations at this junction by invigorating it with international talent and perspective. Where some might see a dance floor’s undulating tides as nothing more than weekend catharsis, Doringer witnesses important rituals and socio-political truths presenting themselves. He has coined the term “Dance of Urgency” - wherein clubbing becomes a mirroring site – or rather a microcosm to observe the impacts of broader social conflicts and evolutions; a Dance of Urgency emerges in times of individual and collective crises, aiming to empower individuals and groups. In this kind of dance, the people who gather to participate and the spaces that house them offer powerful and vibrant means to resist political oppression. Doringer further explored this line of inquiry through his PhD at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna.

Jeugd van de Nacht

Jeugd van de Nacht is een beweging, netwerk en platform voor jongeren in de Gentse nachtcultuur. We zijn ontstaan uit de gedeelde noodzaak van jongeren om ruimte te krijgen, letterlijk en figuurlijk.

Als jongeren in de Gentse nachtcultuur worden we niet altijd gehoord. Terwijl de nacht rijk is aan jonge organisatoren, dj’s, artiesten, grafisch ontwerpers, vj’s, foto- en videografen, geëngageerde bezoekers, safe(r) space collectieven, vrijwilligers, techniekers, scenografen, nightlife-journalisten, et cetera.

We claimen daarom de plek van de nacht binnen de stad, brengen de noden van de Gentse scene in kaart en werken actief aan een betere toekomst voor de Gentse nachtcultuur. We zijn de lijm tussen jongeren en de mensen die voor hen vaak minder bereikbaar zijn: clubuitbaters en -programmators, grote instituties, beleidsmakers…

We organiseren community-meetings, geven meer context over nachtcultuur, bieden jongeren kansen om te organiseren en vormen met alle input uit de scene een stem richting beleid.
