Photo Kegham: Remembering Gaza [EN]

[NL] Kegham Djeghalian is een in Caïro en Parijs gevestigde creatief directeur, beeldend kunstenaar, modebeoefenaar en docent, wiens werk zich bevindt op het snijvlak van modepraktijken, onderwijs, fotografie en het archief. Gesitueerde kennis, gesitueerde praktijk en dekoloniale praxis kenmerken zijn betrokkenheid bij kennisproductie via onderwijs. Djeghalian is hoogleraar Modepraktijken, Beeld en Ontwerp aan de German International University (GIU), waar hij tevens artistiek directeur is van de afdeling Modeontwerp. Hij is de creatief directeur en curator van een educatief ontwerppartnerschap tussen Christian Dior Paris en de German International University in Egypte, Dior x GIU Lab, de eerste internationale samenwerking op het gebied van modeonderwijs van Dior. Djeghalian werkt aan een langdurig project dat zich richt op het bedreigde archief van zijn grootvader, Kegham Djeghalian Senior – de oprichter van de eerste fotostudio in Gaza. Hij presenteerde de eerste uitingen van zijn werk en onderzoek in een solotentoonstelling getiteld "Photo Kegham of Gaza: Unboxing" in 2021 tijdens Cairo Photo Week. Hij heeft gewerkt, geadviseerd en samengewerkt met een divers repertoire van lokale en internationale modehuizen, agentschappen en publicaties; zijn beeldende kunstwerken en interventies zijn internationaal tentoongesteld in galeries, instellingen en musea zoals het Centre Pompidou in Parijs en de Photographers’ Gallery in Londen. Djeghalian is sinds 2016 docent aan de afdeling Fotografie van het Paris College of Art (PCA). Hij gaf les aan het Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) in Parijs, waar hij in 2018-2019 pedagogisch directeur was van het MA-programma in Beeldontwerp in Mode.


[EN] Kegham Djeghalian is a Cairo and Paris based creative director, visual artist, fashion practitioner and educator, whose work lie in the intersection of fashion practices, education, photography and the archive. Situated knowledge, situated practice and decolonial praxis mark his knowledge production engagement through education. Djeghalian is Full Professor of Fashion Practices, Image & Design at the German

International University (GIU) where he is the Artistic Director of the Department of Fashion Design. He is the creative director and curator of an educational design partnership between Christian Dior Paris and The German International University in Egypt, Dior x GIU Lab, the first international design education collaboration of Dior. Djeghalian has been working on a long-term project addressing the endangered archive of his grandfather, Kegham Djeghalian Senior - the founder of the first photography studio of Gaza. He premiered the first articulations of his work and research in a solo exhibition “Photo Kegham of Gaza: Unboxing” in 2021 during Cairo Photo Week. He worked, consulted and collaborated with a diverse repertoire of local and international fashion houses, agencies and publications; his visual arts work and interventions were exhibited internationally in galleries, institutions and museums the likes of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Photographers’ Gallery in London. Djeghalian has been a faculty member of the Photography Department at Paris College of Art (PCA) since 2016. He lectured at the Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) in Paris where he served as the pedagogic director of the MA program in Image Design in Fashion in 2018 – 2019.

[NL] Rand Abou Fakher is filmmaker en kunstenaar met een achtergrond in klassieke muziek. In 2018 schreef en regisseerde ze de korte film Braided Love, die in première ging op het Sarajevo Film Festival. Haar volgende korte film, So We Live, ging in première op Berlinale Shorts 2020, werd geselecteerd op verschillende internationale festivals en won Oscar-kwalificerende prijzen. Ze was jurylid op filmfestivals, mentor tijdens filmworkshops en gastspreker op prestigieuze evenementen zoals de Marché du Film in Cannes en het short script lab van Doha Film Institute.

Sinds 2021 werkt ze als programmeur voor het Toronto Arab Film Festival en voltooide ze een tweejarige kunstresidentie in de Beursschouwburg in Brussel, waar ze haar multimediapraktijk uitbreidde. Haar speelfilmdebuut, On The Way to Forgive I Forgot Myself, wordt ondersteund door het Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds (VAF) en nam deel aan het Torino Script Lab.

[EN] Rand Abou Fakher is a filmmaker and artist with a background in classical music. In 2018, she wrote and directed the short film Braided Love, which premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival. Her next short film, So We Live, premiered at Berlinale Shorts 2020, was selected at various international festivals, and won Oscar-qualifying awards. She has served as a jury member at film festivals, mentored at film workshops, and been a guest speaker at prestigious events such as the Marché du Film at Cannes, and short script lab at Doha Film Institute.

Since 2021, she has worked as a programmer for the Toronto Arab Film Festival while completing a two-year art residency at Beursschouwburg in Brussels, where she expanded her multimedia practice. Her debut feature, On The Way to Forgive I Forgot Myself, is supported by the Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds (VAF) and participated in the Torino Script Lab.
